Dr. Frank Sabatino explores the health benefits of a plant-based diet as well as the impact of animal-based foods on the environment with Dr. Klaper and Moving Medicine Forward.

Long before plant-based eating was “cool” there were a handful of doctors who knew health, or lack thereof, was a direct result of what people eat.

Ahead of the times, Dr. Michael Klaper was among the few and far between doctors who intuitively understood the healing power of food.

As an early adopter of a whole food, plant-based diet, Dr. Klaper didn’t shy away from letting his patients know that a plant-based diet and a balanced lifestyle are essential for health and can be the difference between healing an illness or treating its symptoms.

NHA is honored to have had Dr. Klaper as a presenter at the annual conference as far back as 25 years ago. The longstanding relationship is one we value and cherish.

As well, he received training in surgery, anesthesiology and orthopedics at the University of British Columbia Hospital in Vancouver and trained in obstetrics at the University of California Hospital.

As his medical career progressed, Dr. Klaper began to realize that many of the diseases his patients presented – clogged arteries (atherosclerosis), high blood pressure (hypertension), obesity, adult-onset diabetes and even some forms of arthritis, asthma, and other significant illnesses – were made worse, or actually caused, by the high sugar, high fat, high salt, overly processed, animal products, all part of the Standard American Diet.
